Driving in slippers: could you be fined?

While many drivers might be tempted to pop out to the shops in their slippers, flip-flops, or even barefoot, doing so carries hidden legal risks. According to the Driving Standards Agency, wearing improper footwear can compromise your ability to brake safely and maintain traction on the pedals. The AA advises that driving shoes should have soles no thicker than 10mm, offer good grip, and not restrict ankle movement. If inappropriate footwear leads to an accident, motorists can face charges under the Road Traffic Act 1998 for driving without due care and attention. Penalties include on-the-spot fines, penalty points, potential court appearances with fines up to 5,000 pounds, driving bans, and invalidated insurance claims. Fuente: WalesOnline
