One of Western Australia's worst serial paedophiles, Dennis McKenna, is set to be released within weeks after serving his sentence, despite being declared a High Risk Serious Offender by the WA Supreme Court. The court chose not to issue a continuing detention order, allowing him to return to the community under 41 strict conditions, such as a ban from contacting his 29 victims, children, and the town of Katanning, alongside mandatory reporting of any relationships. McKenna was imprisoned for sexually abusing boys while running a school boarding hostel in Katanning during the 1970s and 1980s. Justice Marcus Solomon noted that while his presence risks re-traumatising victims, the law does not permit indefinite detention solely on that ground. Families of victims, including Kaye Anderson, whose two abused sons died by suicide, strongly condemned the decision and called for indefinite imprisonment. Fuente: Just In (Australia)
