Trainline sets aside millions over pricing probe

Ticketing platform Trainline has set aside nearly £4 million to cover potential costs relating to a competition probe into so-called drip-pricing allegations. The provision comes after the Competition and Markets Authority launched an investigation into concerns that customers were not shown full prices upfront on the app and website. The regulatory scrutiny focuses on whether all mandatory fees were clearly displayed when travellers bought train and coach tickets in advance. Additional fees ranging from 50p to £2.79 were observed, along with a £1.50 booking fee for coach journeys. The financial provision contributed to a 17% drop in Trainline's pre-tax profits to £55.2 million for the six-month period, impacting company shares. Trainline stated that it continues to engage proactively with regulators to seek a swift resolution while noting that the ultimate financial outcome remains highly uncertain. Earnings were also affected by stricter rules regarding rail refund fee revenues. Fuente: Belfast Telegraph #Trainline #Business #UKNews #Economy #ConsumerRights
