The mural took five days to complete (Image: John Myers) A new mural honouring Welsh music legend Bonnie Tyler has been defaced just days after it was completed. The striking piece was unveiled in her birthplace of Skewen at the memorial hall off Wern Road in Skewen Memorial Park. Artist Steve Jenkins, more commonly known as Jenks Art, said he was "honoured and very privileged" to be asked to create the piece in memory of the late singer, who died in a Portuguese hospital on July 8 at the age of 75. However, Coedffranc Town Council, who commissioned the piece, said a group of young people threw eggs at the mural on Tuesday evening, shortly after it had been completed. The youngsters then went on to kick the doors of the memorial hall, the council said. South Wales Police is investigating the incident, with officers reviewing CCTV to identify suspects. The huge new mural features Tyler's likeness, along with a total eclipse of a heart, which is beaming down on a field beneath it. It also features the emblem of Coedffranc Town Council. They then went on to kick doors around the building, causing significant disturbance and distress to those using the hall at the time, and the police were called. "The incident was captured on the council’s CCTV system and the footage has been passed to South Wales Police. We will share any update we are able to once the matter has been dealt with.
