Woman accused of stalking Greens senator faces court

A forty-year-old woman has appeared in the Perth Magistrates Court facing charges of aggravated stalking with intent to intimidate and demanding property by written threats directed at WA Greens senator Jordon Steele-John. Magistrate Clare Stanyer granted the accused bail with strict conditions, which include staying away from and having no contact with the senator. Her identity has been suppressed due to an ongoing matter, and she is scheduled to return to court on February 25. In a separate development, Senator Steele-John took leave from parliament following multiple allegations of serious misconduct regarding his behaviour around women, raised by current and former party staffers. The senator has denied the claims, attributing them to factional weaponisation of rumours. An independent workplace investigation by Perth law firm Modern Legal has been commissioned by the WA Greens to examine the behaviour and a related crisis communication document, with a final report expected in eight weeks.
