Scrubs star Sarah Chalke has shared details about filming a major surprise twist in the sitcom's revival series, revealing that co-star Zach Braff had to personally plead with fans not to leak the moment online. Speaking to Deadline, Chalke explained that the scene—which showed her character Elliot Reid reconciling and kissing her ex-husband John Dorian, only for it to be revealed as one of JD's signature fantasy sequences—was shot in a very public outdoor setting by the water. With dozens of onlookers armed with smartphones, the production crew had to scramble to put up giant blocking flags to shield the actors from prying eyes. Despite their efforts, Chalke noted that a few people were still recording when the cameras rolled on the kissing scene. Once they finished the take, Braff turned directly to the onlookers and begged them to keep the secret. To the relief of the cast and crew, the fans respected the plea and kept the surprise under wraps. Chalke also praised the rare luxury of shooting the entire sequence chronologically in a single day, moving from a dinner table scene to the waterfront shoot. While the twist dashed hopes of an immediate permanent reunion, Chalke teased that the door might not be entirely closed for the couple, expressing hope for future seasons to explore their dynamic further.
