An elderly woman shot during the 2025 Bondi Beach terror attack has died, almost a year after the attack. Eva Geller, 90, was badly injured in the shooting at a Hanukkah festival at Bondi Beach's Archer Park on 14 December 2025. Geller had been in and out of hospital in the months since the attack after suffering serious injuries to her legs, according to Rabbi Aron Moss, who gave an update on Geller's passing on Friday. Moss said that Geller, a Holocaust survivor, had only recently turned 90, praising her "incredible strength". He said that Geller had been bedridden since the attack, but had kept smiling throughout every health issue she'd faced. Geller migrated to Australia from Hungary as a child, travelling with her mother and grandmother. Her late husband had also been a Holocaust survivor. "She just never really recovered, and it was a couple of weeks ago she ended up in the Prince of Wales (hospital) and that was the end," Moss said. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese issued a statement on Friday. "I am saddened to hear of the passing of Eva Geller, who was seriously injured in the horrific antisemitic terrorist attack at Bondi last year," Albanese said. "Eva should have been able to celebrate Chanukah in peace and safety, and instead, her life was changed forever by an act of terror and antisemitism." NSW Police also acknowledged Geller's death in a statement, saying it is "now awaiting further advice and are working with the office of the Coroner". Fifteen people, including a 10-year-old girl named Matilda, were killed when two gunmen opened fire on the Jewish festival in December last year. Shooter Naveed Akram is still before the courts, facing terrorism and murder offences. His father, Sajid Akram, was shot dead by police at the scene of the shooting. The Royal Commission into Antisemitism and Social Cohesion, called in the weeks after the attack, has heard from over 340 witnesses across 62 days. Presided over by former High Court Justice Virginia Bell, the royal commission was directed to make recommendations on ways to heighten social cohesion and stop ideological and religiously motivated extremism from spreading. Bell is expected to hand down her final report on 18 December, four days after the anniversary of the attacks, so as not to disrupt memorial events.
