Public broadcaster CBC has announced the upcoming launch of CBC Money, a brand-new content initiative designed to address the daily cost-of-living concerns that matter most to Canadians. Set to roll out across television, radio, audio, streaming, and digital platforms, the project will feature a wide range of original programming spanning news and entertainment, including dedicated podcasts, video series, and television shows. The initiative will be anchored by a new downtown studio in Calgary, featuring a core team of nine journalists. According to Tracy Johnson, managing editor of CBC Calgary, the city's vital role in the national economy makes it the ideal location for the headquarters. Brodie Fenlon, general manager and editor-in-chief of CBC News, noted that placing the focus in Calgary, supported by reporters stationed across the country, will help broaden coverage of Canada's diverse economy. To build out this national coverage, additional business reporters are being hired in Vancouver, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Montreal, and Halifax, along with two producers based in Toronto. Leadership emphasizes that CBC Money aims to move past traditional market updates and boardroom discussions, focusing instead on practical money-planning strategies and financial resilience. Paul Haavardsrud, host of CBC Radio's Cost of Living, is set to host a new video series offering practical tips to help Canadians manage their finances. The initiative will also incorporate content from established CBC programs such as Dragons' Den, Go Public, Marketplace, the Mind Your Business newsletter, and the youth-focused Street Cents. Audiences can expect to encounter CBC Money content starting in the new year, with a dedicated CBC News Network show anticipated to launch roughly a year from now. While the new downtown Calgary location is expected to be announced early in 2027, the existing CBC Calgary newsroom in the Parkdale neighbourhood will also remain operational. #CBC #CanadianEconomy #PersonalFinance #CostOfLiving #Calgary #Source: CBC
