The Japanese government has taken a decisive step in its economic strategy by selecting twenty-eight priority products and technologies to receive public and private investments exceeding three hundred seventy trillion yen. This ambitious financial commitment serves as a central pillar of the nation's broader growth strategy, designed to secure technological independence and economic resilience. The finalized list of priority items emerged from an initial pool of sixty-two products and technologies spanning seventeen strategic fields, carefully chosen for their potential to generate significant economic spillover effects across various industries. During a meeting of the Council for Japan’s Growth Strategy, Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi emphasized that large-scale and strategic investment support measures are absolutely essential, particularly for establishing a robust domestic semiconductor supply chain. Among the twenty-eight designated items are vertical and physical artificial intelligence, advanced data centers, biopharmaceuticals, quantum computing, modern shipbuilding, and the vital refining of critical minerals. To ensure the success of this economic roadmap, authorities plan to formulate a comprehensive implementation plan by the end of the year. Furthermore, the government has officially designated the upcoming five-year period as a dedicated timeframe for intensive investments. As global competition intensifies in high-tech manufacturing and digital infrastructure, these strategic funding measures aim to position the country at the forefront of global technological innovation while safeguarding its long-term industrial capabilities.
