Left finance to co-own a roofing company.

Andrew Ringler planned a traditional career in finance after graduating from Michigan State University with a degree in finance in 2019. While waiting to start a consulting role, he took a summer job in roofing sales through his college roommate. Working hard and putting his nose to the grindstone, he soon realized his roofing commission payments were surpassing what he would earn in his consulting job. Transitioning from a cubicle where he sat all day looking at spreadsheets, he found that roofing sales offered flexibility, time outdoors, and direct correlation between his long hours and his income. In the summer of 2020, he made the tough decision to leave his corporate role to pursue the trades full-time. The choice surprised his friends, mentors, and even his father, who is a CPA and financial advisor. People initially judged the career switch, viewing it as abandoning a secure job with benefits and prestige. However, Ringler embraced the challenge to prove others wrong. After years of success, working up to eighty or ninety hours a week, and learning leadership at a young age, he split off to co-own Pilot Roofing in Michigan with two other owners, currently employing three full-time workers and looking to expand further.
