Alanis Morissette comes out as pansexual

Alanis Morissette came out as pansexual during the Nov. 3 episode of the “Handsome” podcast , co-hosted by Tig Notaro, Fortune Feimster, and Mae Martin. Towards the end of the segment, Feimster told the singer, “I’m sorry for the men that hurt you, but I’m not sorry for the songs that came from it,” adding, “Did it make you want to be a lesbian at any point?” Morissette answered, “I’m pansexual, so, yeah.” To this, Notaro interjected, “Wait, you’re not really pansexual, are you?” “I am,” clarified Morissette. When the hosts joked that she should have started the podcast with this news, Morissette joked, “I like to leave it for the epilogue.” Pansexuality can be defined as a sexual, romantic, or emotional attraction to people regardless of their gender identity or sex. Morissette recently made a remark about her “amazing” moment in 2000 kissing Sarah Jessica Parker during an episode of the “Call Her Daddy” podcast in September, saying that the idea for a same-sex smooch for her guest appearance on the show came direclty from her. “I reached out to them and I said, ‘Might it be a nice time for Carrie to experience a lesbian moment?’ And they said, ‘Why, yes. We were thinking the same thing.’” “I do recall kissing her — it was very pleasant,” she noted, calling the experience “easy” and “buoyant.” The Canadian singer-songwriter has been married to husband Mario “Souleye” Treadway since 2010. They are parents to Ever, 15, Onyx, 10, and Winter, 7 . Morissette has been weathering more troublesome headlines of late, having taken legal action against her former tour manager in September, accusing her of blackmail by trying to frame her for drug trafficking. The Canadian singer’s lawsuit in Los Angeles court called ex-tour manager Keren Urinov a “disgruntled” ex-employee and described how she allegedly attempted to extort her boss after she had been caught with drugs in her luggage while on tour in Europe, which then threatened to pin it on Morissette. Morisette found fame in 1995 with her album “Jagged Little Pill” — which became one of the defining and biggest selling records of the decade. It was adapted into a Broadway music in 2019, for which she won two Tony Awards. This year, Morissette was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame.
